Luonteeltaan Telkkä on vahva narttu, se vahtii omaisuuttaan toisilta koirilta mutta on ihmisille avoin ja hyväntahtoinen. Se ei ole ohjaajapehmeä, siltä löytyy vietin (saalis, ravinto ja lauma kaikki vahvoja) lisäksi patoamista, se on taistelutahtoinen, palveluhaluinen ja helppo kouluttaa, sillä se toistaa osaamansa asiat kokeissa sellaisina kuin se on ne oppinut ja joskus tekee jopa enemmän kuin koulutustasolta voisi vaatia. Telkän vahtivietti ei tee siitä itsestäänselvää koiraa, mutta se toimii lauman jäsenenä erittäin hyvin ja on kisakoirana erinomainen.
Telkkä kilpailee agilityssa ylimmässä luokassa ja on agilityvalio, tokossa se kisaa voittajassa ja viestillä avossa. Näyttelyistäkin se on valio. Se on nähnyt lampaita kerran ja syttyi, mutta emme harrasta paimennusta.

Telkkä is a bitch with plenty of attitude. She rules the roost wherever she goes. She's incredibly easy to compete with, as she does not react to her handler unless the handler passes out. She does what she's been taught to do at all times. She gets along beautifully with the rest of the dogs in our pack, but makes sure that strange dogs will not get to eat her treats. She's friendly with people but not pushy. In agility, she competes in the highest class and is an agility champion. In obedience she has the right to compete in class three (out of four) and in reporting she competes in class two (out of three). She is also a conformation champion. She has been introduced to sheep and got the idea, but herding is not one of our hobbies.
